COMMISSION ON FOOD CHEMISTRY (VI.5)
Number: 650/88/96
Title: Latin American Workshop on Mycotoxins - Methods of Analysis
Coordinator(s): M.
Sabino (local), J.
Gilbert, E. Sydenham, and H. van Egmond
Remarks: This project has been initiated entirely through IUPAC
i.e. the Mycotoxins Working Group (WG) coordinator and three members
of his WG.
Completion Date: 1998
Objective:
The idea was formulated at a Commission on Food Chemistry (CFC) meeting
and has been progressed by interaction through CFC. The objective is
to improve the awareness and to provide training in methods of analysis
for mycotoxins of food safety significance in Latin America.
Rationale: To improve the choices of analytical procedures, promote
greater awareness of analytical quality for mycotoxin analysis, and
to provide the up-dating of new developments in this analytical area.
If the outputs from this project are implemented it should lead to better
assessment of risks of exposure to mycotoxins in foods in Latin America
and improvement in consumer protection.
Progress:
Project Completed - This workshop, held from November 18-22,
1996 in Sao Paulo (Brazil), was extremely successful and contributed
strongly to spreading IUPACs mission in the region. A report is published
in Chem. Int.
20(2),
35 (1998), 'Meeting reports' section.
