The purpose of
the DIDAC-3 series is to provide chemistry teachers with a useful educational aid in the
form of illustrations and texts.
The philosophy of DIDAC-3 is similar to DIDAC-2 and to DIDAC-1, the intention being that
the illustrations convey the main message. As with DIDAC-2, the accompanying text is
fairly extensive.
The three topics dealt with in this series are:
-> Electrochemistry
-> Air & water
-> Atomic structures
Additional explanation may well be necessary since the colour illustrations have been
prepared for multi-lingual use and hence contain only chemical texts.
The colour illustrations have also been reproduced in black and white, to facilitate the
preparation of photocopies.
These can be distributed to the students as required.
In preparing both the illustrations and the accompanying text the IUPAC-conventions have
been adhered to as closely as possible.
The editorial group at Agfa-Gevaert N. V. would like to extend its sincere thanks to all
those who contributed to the realisation of DIDAC-3; these being both professors from
university departments of education and secondary school personnel. A special word of
thanks is extended to:
Prof. D. Neerinck (KULAK & UIA)
Prof. L. Brandt (KULeuven)
Prof. E. Onkelinx (LUC)
L. Geerts, Lic. Sc. (syllabus planning Chemistry, State Education)
C. Goossens, Lic. Sc. (syllabus planning Chemistry, Private Education)
M. Meeus, Lic. Sc. (KVCV) who were mainly responsible for the material
that has been included in DIDAC-3.
The editorial committee and advisers have worked voluntarily on this educational.
We wish teachers every success with this new series of illustrations.
Mortsel, Belgium. December 1996.
