Title: Solubility of volatile and gaseous fluorides in all solvents

Series: Solubility Data Series; editor-in-chief: Mark Salomon

Task group
Chairman:
H.L. Clever

Member: R. Battino

Completion Date: 2005 - project completed

Objective:
A critical evaluated collection of solubility data of the fluorides of xenon, boron, nitrogen, sulfur and carbon in all solvents, including XeF's, BF3, NF3, N2F4, SF6, CF4, CHF3, CH2F2, CH3F, C2F6, C2HF5, C2H2F4, C2H3F3, C2H4F2, C2H5F, C2F4, C2H2F2, C2H3F, C3F8, C3F6, c-C4F8, C2F6O (ether), C3F6O (oxirane).

Description:
A literature search for solubility data of the compounds XeF6, XeF4, XeF2, BF3, NF3, N2F4, SF6, CF4, CHF3, CH2F2, CH3F, C2F6, C2HF5, C2H2F4, C2H3F3, C2H4F2, C2H5F, C3F8, c-C4F8, C2H3F, C2H2F2, C2F4, C3F6, SiF4 and a few other compounds in all solvents is at least 85 % complete. So far approximately 350 systems have been compiled in rough draft and near 200 have been prepared in final draft. For systems for which data are available from several laboratories a critical evaluation will be prepared giving tables, equations and figures showing the recommended and tentative data. The volume should be of use to workers in environmental chemistry, industry, engineering and theoreticians in solution theory.

Progress:
Status in Jan 2003 - Most data compilations are complete. There is good progress on gas + water evaluations, other evaluations will get underway soon. All recent papers between 1988 and 2002 (also covering gas + seawater ) have been collected and will be included in the review.
