COMMISSION ON HIGH TEMPERATURE MATERIALS AND SOLID
STATE CHEMISTRY (II.3)
Number: 230/25/93
Title: Surface Analysis of Ceramics
Coordinator(s): M.H.
Lewis
Remarks: Interaction with American Ceramics Society, International
Ceramics Federation and Division V
Completion Date: 1999 - project terminated
Objective:
This project focuses on surface-sensitive experimental
techniques directed towards ceramics. The project will prepare a comparative
and critical survey of XPS, AES, SIMS (and possibly RBS) in relation
to a variety of ceramics problems -- many arising because ceramics
are electrical insulators -- and include recommended experimental
procedures. This work will be particularly useful to industrial users
and processors of advanced ceramic materials. It needs a group of
people and is not feasible for a single research group; it appears
an appropriate activity for IUPAC.
Progress:
The coordinator has recruited two primary contributors. They will
prepare a draft manuscript for Commission review at Ljubljana.
See progress report in the Minutes of the
Commission Meeting in Ljubljana, Slovenia, 12-13 June 1998 - Chem.
