POLYCHAR, The World Forum on Advanced Polymeric Materials, belongs to a series of annual conferences taking place in different countries starting in USA (from 1992 until 2003), then moving on to Portugal (2004), Singapore (2005), Japan (2006), Brazil (2007), India (2008), France (2009), Germany (2010), Nepal (2011) and Croatia (2012). The Conference enjoys a high international reputation and is sponsored by IUPAC for more than 10 years. The 20th World Forum on Advanced Polymeric Materials – POLYCHAR 20– was held from 26–30 March 2012 in Dubrovnik (Croatia), a medieval city, included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

This issue of Macromolecular Symposia is devoted to the premier edition of International Conferences envisioned to be organized biannually in Kathmandu under the banner of ‘‘Kathmandu Symposia on Advanced Materials (KaSAM)’’. KaSAM – 2012 was hosted by Nepal Polymer Institute (NPI) in association with Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu; Kathmandu University, Kavre and Universite´ de Rouen, Rouen (France) under the sponsorship of IUPAC. The conference was held in beautiful environment of the Park Village Hotel and Resort in Kathmandu during May 9-12, 2012. KaSAM is aimed at strengthening networking of materials scientists from South Asian Countries with those from rest of the world. It has the motto: CrossLinking Science and Virtues with the goal of promoting education and researches in the field of advanced materials in Nepal in particular fostering our endeavors in applied Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.
