Project

Commission on Biotechnology

Number: 340/1/99 (former 0/2/99)

Title: Biotechnology Navigator Web Page

Coordinator(s): M. Hearn - Access to list of members

Completion Date: 2001 - project terminated

Remarks: > Project Homepage

Objective:
While the world wide web abounds with information about most aspects of biotechnology and genetic engineering supplied by industries, government authorities and universities, there is little transnational coverage of this important field. IUPAC, as a major international organization involved in the promotion of all aspects of pure and applied chemistry worldwide, has a mission to disseminate information of this important area across country borders, and its commission on biotechnology (COB) is the appropriate unit to address this goal.

Progress:
In a first initiative, we have already set up a web page which could serve as a directory to national web sites on biotechnology <http://www.itb.uni-stuttgart.de:8080/IUPAC/navigator/navigator.html> and eventually be transferred to the IUPAC home page. This shell now needs to be filled with suitable information, and some of the members of COB have expressed their interest to become involved in this task.

Progress:
Project begun Summer '98, with 2 years' duration. The production of the book will be iterative with detailed comments from CNIC members on all chapters required to ensure consistency throughout. Comments from the chemical community will be welcome.

Last update: 19 May 1999

Project terminated 31 dec 2001
