Division of Chemistry and the Environment (VI)

COMMISSION ON SOIL AND WATER CHEMISTRY (VI.3)

Number: 630/27/98

Title: Control of Remediated Soil

Coordinators: R.J. Wright and W. Kordel

Completion Date: 2000 - abandoned

Objectives:
Different techniques for soil remediation have been developed and tested which greatly influence the quality and properties of the remediated soils. Various countries have adopted different lists of pollutants setting trigger, cut-off values and tolerated residual concentrations after remediation, in terms of total amounts of contaminants or differentiating between total amounts and mobile fractions.

Progress:
An overview of soil remediation strategies and recommendations for testing of pollutants, remediation techniques and intended uses of remediated soils is being conducted. This project is an expansion of a previous project on Biodegradation and Leaching of Pollutants which was conducted in 1993.
