Project

Physical Chemistry Division (I)

COMMISSION ON MOLECULAR STRUCTURE AND SPECTROSCOPY (I.5)

Number: 150/23/95

Title: Spectroscopic Intensities; Related Quantities, Nomenclature, and Symbols

Coordinator(s): J.E. Bertie

Remarks: Collaboration with Commissions I.1, I.4, III.3, IV.2, V.4, and the editors of various spectroscopic journals

Completion Date: 1999

Objective:
To review and recommend additions to the spectroscopic intensity quantities listed in the IUPAC Green Book, namely Quantities Units and Symbols in Physical Chemistry by I. M. Mills, T. Cvitas, K. Homann, N. Kallay and K. Kuchitsu, Blackwell Science 1993.

Progress:
This project has led the author to redraft the page on "Spectroscopic Nomenclature" published annually in Applied Spectroscopy (See also http://www.s-a-s.org/authors_guide.htm), and to make contributions to project 154/5/97 of the Subcommittee on Notations and Conventions for Molecular Spectroscopy. These contributions have fairly well complemented the Green Book's content on this subject, and the project will be terminated in Berlin.
