WORKING PARTY ON MODELLING OF POLYMERIZATION KINETICS AND PROCESSES

Number: 428/5/93

Title: Critically Evaluated Database of Kinetic Parameters for Free-Radical Polymerization

Coordinator(s): R.G. Gilbert

Remarks: Commission IV.2

Completion Date: 1998

Objective:
Modeling and mechanism of free-radical polymerizations is important for science and industry, but often completely different model assumptions and parameter values are reported for ostensibly the same systems. This project is rectifying this by international collaboration, producing critically evaluated kinetic parameters whose values are reliable and which can be used by the international community, thereby fulfilling some IUPAC objectives. Reliable methodologies for this were established by a preceding WP, Modeling of Polymerization Kinetics & Processes. The first part of the project is to evaluate and carry out additional measurements on propagation rate coefficients.
