* Green-Sustainable Chemistry
In recent times, in fact, the difference between sustainable chemistry and green chemistry is becoming more evident. Sustainable chemistry envisages an industrial involvement and promotion with the aim of achieving fewer pollutant processes and more valuable products, maintaining, at the same time, profits. Whereas green chemistry is more innovative because it is not necessarily connected to profits, it involves fundamental aspects and does not aim automatically at an industrial process. There is a great need to create a new type of chemistry focused on a new production system and utilization of chemical derivatives, in order to prepare the younger generation to reach a greener future. Following this scenario, this special issue has been planned with the aim of extending the knowledge on green chemistry, not disregarding, however, the industrial interest.
PAC Special Topic Issue based on lectures presented at the 1st International IUPAC Conference on Green-Sustainable Chemistry, held in Dresden, Germany, 10-15 September 2006.

* High Temperature Materials Chemistry

* Global Climate Change
The monograph, first published in Italian, constitutes one of the early chapters from a senior secondary textbook on "Introduction to Green Chemistry" which will be produced by INCA as part of its Green Chemistry Series. The monograph has gained considerable popularity in Italy, leading to its adoption by many science teachers as a resource for the curriculum. The booklet also has the unique feature of introducing green chemistry to secondary school students. It stresses the central role of chemistry in understanding the Global Climate Change issue.

* Advanced Materials
Polychar, the World Forum for Advanced Materials, focused in 2007 on Polymer Science on the South American continent. POLYCHAR 15 had it home this year in Buzios, Brazil. The meeting in Buzios attracted about 180 participants from 21 countries, many of them from South America, proudly presenting the quality of their science, but also from far-away countries such as Lithuania, South Korea, India, Israel or South Africa.

* Functional and Biological Gels and Networks: Theory and Experiments
Polymer Networks 2006, the 18th International Polymer Networks Group Meeting was held in Sheffield, UK, from 3-7 September 2006. The main theme of the conference 'Functional and Biological Gels and Networks: Theory and Experiment' high-lighted a stimulating exchange of the latest research by members of the macromolecular and biological science communities, on topics that cross the boundaries between synthetic, bio- and physical gels and net-works. The scientific program was multi-disciplinary in its content with individual themes on functional and biological gels that ranged from the chemistry, processing, structure and properties of synthetic elastomers, to the molecular and supra-molecular characterisation of gels and net-works, to theory and modelling of gelation and network formation, to nanostructured gels and network nanocomposites as high-performance engineering materials, to bio- and physical gels and networks with applications in the biomedical field, in drug release, cosmetics and in the food industry.
