I06 Estimating risks and dangers correctly: 1

Aim: The sensible use of chemical products.

Chemical agents have many uses, but can often also present potential hazards, and need to be used prudently. For example ethanol, C2H5OH, is used on a large scale in hospitals as a disinfectant. If it is used carelessly (resulting for example in high levels of absorption into the body via the oral route) it can lead to disturbance of normal brain function and excessive abuse leads to delirium during which pink elephants may be seen.
